The sixth-largest economy in Europe, Poland represents a booming e-commerce market, and one rife with opportunities for further growth. With a young middle class eagerly embracing online shopping, potential for growth is even greater here than in some of the more mature markets on the continent.

The country’s history illustrates why – in just three decades since the dismantling of the Soviet Union, Poland has gone from a poor Soviet satellite state to an exciting economy with its GDP increasing seven-fold since 1990. And while the transition has been dramatic, it has also been relatively smooth, and not resulted in the development of huge inequalities.
Increasingly tech-savvy, 86% of Poles were online in 2020. The most popular outlets in the e-commerce market are non-Polish, and the rate of cross-border sales saw a considerable increase in 2020, reaching 30% of shoppers. While Polish customers tend to have higher expectations when buying cross-border, this makes 2021 an ideal year to expand into the region.
