Jamaica – Update on hurricane

11 July, 2024

Update

Further to EmIS No. 103/2024, the designated operator of Jamaica, Jamaica Post, wishes to inform other Union member countries and their designated operators that, following the passage of Hurricane Beryl, it is extending the suspension of international (outbound and inbound) mail operations, as well as domestic (local) processing and delivery of mail, response to customer service queries, and associated IT activities (sending of EDI updates).

Although the hurricane has passed, there have been reports of roadways being impassable due to falling trees, other debris and flood waters.  Utilities (electricity, water and Internet connectivity) have also been disrupted.  Consequently, staff turnout is currently minimal across the postal network, and the focus is on assessing damage and advancing recovery efforts.

Staff will be called back to work from Friday, 5 July onwards. Operational delays are to be expected into the coming week (8 to 12 July).  Developments are being actively monitored, and other designated operators will be kept updated via EmIS as the situation improves.
